The 'Carta Pobla' establishes a remote but direct link between the Andorrans and the Carolingian empire. Despite having been used by Anton Fiter i Rossell to base his interpretation on the origins of Andorran sovereignty, the document is a forgery, admitted without reservation by all scholars since the nineteenth century. Despite this evidence, a detailed analysis of its content and its various locations over time helps to determine when and where it was developed, which allows us to trace the origins of the concern about the genesis of Andorran identity. The work is a fascinating research on the creation, justification and vicissitudes of this founding document. The work of Oliver Vergés places the falsification of the document in the years following the acquisition of rights over Andorra by the bishop of Urgell, towards the second half of the twelfth century, when the relations between the new lord and the powerful parish communities were reformulated.
