The emissions calculator is a platform —accessible to the general public and aimed at different economic sectors— that allows the simplified calculation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to the variables of energy consumption, resources and other material goods used in different areas and sectors of activity in the country (events, domestic sector and organizations).
The platform is a web-based calculator based mainly on the methodology defined by the UNE-ISO 14064-1:2006 standard on the development of greenhouse gas inventories in organizations.
The platform provides an estimate of the tons of equivalent CO2 emitted by the different activities and/or products used, with the aim of facilitating the offsetting of these emissions through the purchase of high quality credits. This encourages the activities analyzed to become carbon neutral. Currently, offsetting through the purchase of carbon credits is performed from external platforms and credited from the platform.
The tool is free and open access for all citizens, without the need for prior registration. It should be noted that in order to use some functionalities it is necessary to start the session with a Goverment issued digital certificate. The use of the certificate is not compulsory but it is essential if the calculations of GHG emissions and the compensations made need to be stored, validated and made available to the Administration.
