The Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), the Andorran Studies Institute and the Observatory of Sustainability of Andorra, which currently form Andorra Research + Innovation, the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, and the General Council of Aran resumed the organization of the Snow and Avalanche Workshop in 2017 (First circular).
The conference was a meeting point for those who, both personally and professionally, are interested in the world of snow and avalanches. The conference consisted of invited lectures, oral presentations, and posters. An exhibition area was included for companies and institutions with activities related to the conference's theme. On the last day, a field trip was held to various points of interest in the parish of Ordino related to the theme.
During the conference, 200 professionals from the snow and mountain sectors shared experiences and discussed topics such as mountain meteorology, avalanche forecasting, snow and water resources and the impact of climate change on mountain areas. Other topics such as avalanche prevention, protection, and dynamics, as well as mountain safety outreach, were also featured at the conference.
The technical snow and avalanche workshops, which in this fifth edition were called the Pyrenean Symposium on Snow and Avalanches, took place on November 9tg, 10th and 11th, 2017, in Andorra, in the town of Ordino.
