ECHO-POLIS

This project aims to improve the acoustic environment in urban areas with high levels of social and commercial activity, using Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany as pilot cases. It combines environmental acoustic measurements with participatory data collected through mobile devices to generate hybrid indicators that integrate both physical characteristics and citizens’ perception of the soundscape.

The project is structured around three main pillars:

  • Analysis of the urban soundscape using real-time artificial intelligence to identify and classify sound sources such as traffic, human activity, and natural sounds.
  • Study of the interaction between natural mountain sounds and urban noise, as well as their impact on soundscape perception.
  • Participatory data collection through soundwalks, mobile recordings, and surveys, with the active involvement of the community.

The project includes pilot actions, educational workshops, and awareness campaigns to foster citizen participation in monitoring and interpreting soundscapes. Furthermore, it generates transferable value through the development of open-source tools and methodologies applicable to other urban mountain environments, thereby supporting more inclusive, data-driven sound management policies.
