AR+I starts a pilot project to measure precipitation in the country through the installation of parabolic antennae

Andorra Recerca + Innovació carried out this week a pilot test in the country, in collaboration with the company HD-Rain, to start a campaign to measure rainfall from the satellite television signal. Since Monday, the stations developed by the company HD-Rain have started to be installed, with the aim of measuring rainfall.

Andorra is a territory with a singular orography that makes it difficult to observe precipitation from the radar images of the meteorological services of the neighboring countries. Together with HD-Rain and the National Meteorological Service, the deployment of a network of satellite television antennas has begun. Unlike the meteorological radars that neighboring countries have, which are expensive and expensive to set up, the technology developed by HD-Rain is innovative and low cost and allows estimating the intensity of precipitation from the attenuation of the television signal received by the satellite antenna.
